According to the Stafford Township Police Department, Patrolman Tyler Szwed was patrolling the Ocean Acres district of Manahawkin on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at around 11:39 p.m. when he noticed a car that had slammed into the residence of 42 Mermaid Drive.
Officer Szwed arrived at the scene and discovered the involved vehicle, a white Honda Civic, was empty. Further inquiry revealed that the accident occurred just moments before Officer Szwed arrived, and the vehicle's occupants escaped on foot. The house had been severely damaged, but happily no one was injured.
Christian Capone, a 17-year-old male from Beach Haven West, NJ, was identified as the vehicle's driver after a lengthy and time-consuming inquiry. Capone was later apprehended at his home. Capone is thought to have had several juvenile passengers in the car at the time of the incident. One of the passengers has been identified at this time. At this moment, no injuries have been recorded.
Failure to Maintain Lane, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage, and Failure to Report an Accident were among the several motor vehicle summonses issued to Capone. At a later date and time, he will appear in the Stafford Township Municipal Court.
