According to the Island Heights Police Department Facebook, on August 21st 2021, at 5:17pm Island Heights Police units were dispatched to the Pied Piper Swim School for a report of a vehicle crashing into a building.
Upon arrival, Officers assessed the scene and located a male already out of a submerged silver Nissan. Moments later, the Island Heights First Aid Squad and the Island Heights Fire Company arrived on scene to treat the driver of the vehicle and assess the structural damage of the building.
After the driver who was later identified as Robert Bjorklund (52) of Seaside Heights was cleared by the Island Heights First Aid Squad with a refusal of treatment, Officers were able to further their on scene investigation. This investigation led to the arrest of Bjorklund for driving while under the influence and he was was issued multiple traffic summonses. He was then processed and released as per Johns Law, pending a future court date.
This crash investigation was conducted by Traffic Safety Officer Zappola of the Island Heights Police Department. Officers on scene included Detective Curtis, Ptl. Bellomy , and Ptl. Mellott.
