Island Beach State Park Closed Sunday Due To Henri

Island Beach State Park
Closed on Sunday due to the potential for beach erosion from Hurricane Henri.

According to Island State Beach Park's Facebook Page, swimming and mobile sport fishing vehicle access will be closed Sunday, August 22nd.

Beach conditions will be reevaluated on Monday (8/23) after high tide.

The National Weather Service upgraded Henri to a hurricane early Saturday. The center issued a tropical storm warning for coastal New York and New Jersey west of East Rockaway Inlet to Manasquan Inlet, including New York City. The warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.

Ocean County however is expected to experience minor coastal flooding and heavy rain, with 2 to 3 inches anticipated.

The winds offshore are continuing to cause rough surf and are creating a high risk for rip currents through Sunday, both of which can cause beach erosion.
