Meg Baker of CBS New York went to The Presbyterian Church of Toms River's "Pop the Trunk" food distribution and spoke with Toms River volunteers who have been placing food given by Fulfill into the trunks of those in need for the past two years.

Car trunks are loaded with food as they pull up in front of the Presbyterian church in Toms River. The freebies began in April 2020, when many people were out of work owing to the pandemic and children were at home, missing out on school meals.

According to Terrance Turnbach, they did it for one week.  He knew they had to come back and do it again.  After two weeks, they knew they had to come back for three and now they are on week 105.

The need for assistance persists, as inflation hits the most vulnerable the hardest.

According to Mayor Hill of Toms River, he states the cost of gasoline, food and clothing has risen.  As a result they are seeing a constant flow of people who are still  in need.

Each week, the volunteers claim to distribute around 400 cartons of fruits and vegetables.

"They just drive up. It's quick, it's easy  and there are no questions. Have a nice day, and I hope you and your family are doing well. For those people who don't get it, it's about companionship and socialising "Maria Maruca, a volunteer, expressed her gratitude.

Jackie Cerrigan expresses her gratitude for the help she received.

"People express their gratitude to us. We thank them because you rarely get to be a part of the solution after hearing about the problem "Jeanette Schlapfer, a volunteer, expressed her gratitude.

Some even offer their services as delivery drivers. Volunteer Jennifer Howe said, "They go immediately to those who are homebound or don't have transportation."

They are dedicated to helping their neighbors and ensuring that no one goes hungry.

Fulfill Food Bank is a partner in the food distribution. They'll be handing out hams in addition to the standard boxes in honor of Easter.
