Coast Guard Saves 4 People and a Dog from Sinking Boat at the Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Rescue

Four people and a dog were saved by the Coast Guard from a sinking boat on Sunday in Barnegat Bay close to Forked River.

While already in motion for operations, a 29-foot Response Boat - Small crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light in New Jersey located the sinking 30-foot recreational boat. The Coast Guard rescue boat's crew loaded the four individuals and their dog on board. A little while after the personnel transfer was finished, the leisure boat capsized.

Chief Warrant Officer James B. Corbisiero, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, stated that the boat's owner believes the boat was taking in water as a result of a loose plug, but it was not possible to reach the compartment to verify this. "This rescue came at a fortunate time, and I applaud the Coast Guard boat crew's alertness and quick actions to help these people and their dog."

The dog and passengers were taken into a port at Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, by the Coast Guard team. The boat was righted by a commercial salvage operation, which then pulled it into the same marina.

There have been no injuries recorded.
