COVID Quarantine Guidelines in Toms River Schools Have Been Updated

Quarantine Updates in Schools

Guidelines Updated

In a letter to staff, parents, and students, the district stated that it will continue to follow the state's mask mandate as well as updated quarantine rules.

The Toms River Regional Schools reminded parents, employees, and students on Tuesday about changes to the state's COVID-19 health and safety requirements, which include the requirement for masks in schools.

According to the letter, Governor Phil Murphy has prolonged the mask mandate (EO 251) for another 30 days under new Executive Order 281 issued today.

This has no effect on the district's present policies or procedures, as they have followed EO 251 since it was implemented. Toms River Schools will, however, continue to monitor the status of this mandate in the coming 30 days and beyond, and will disclose any changes as soon as possible.

The district also stated that it will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's and the state Department of Health's most recent advice on quarantines and isolation.

The following are the modifications, which go into effect on January 18:

  • People who test positive for COVID-19 should be in quarantine for at least five days (day 0 is the initial day of symptoms or the day a positive viral test was obtained for those who are asymptomatic) or until their symptoms resolve (if symptoms continue after five days).

  • Unvaccinated people who are suspected of being in close contact with a positive case should be quarantined for five days; after a negative test, students should be allowed to return to school.
  • The school district's Quarantine Exclusion Criteria paper has been revised.

"Because this guidance takes effect on January 18, it has an impact on those who are currently in quarantine as well as those who may enter quarantine today or tomorrow," according to the letter. "If, as a result of these revised standards, you or your kid are eligible to return to school sooner than expected, please contact your school immediately to notify them of your or your child's return."
