Dangerous Heat Returns to New Jersey With Severe Storm Threat Looming — Here’s When and Where
The National Weather Service (NWS) states that "the greatest heat indices so far this year are forecast today, topping out near 100 degrees this afternoon in most places," which might result in severe thunderstorms and destructive winds in New Jersey on Thursday due to record-breaking heat and humidity.
In the low to mid-90s, temperatures are predicted to hover close to record-breaking highs.
New Jersey is preparing for a stretch of dangerous summer weather as a blast of extreme heat moves into the region, bringing the potential for intense heat, high humidity, and severe thunderstorms.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s across much of the state, with heat index values making it feel even hotter. The combination of soaring temperatures and oppressive humidity could create hazardous conditions, especially for those spending extended time outdoors.
Heat Alert: High Temperatures and Dangerous Humidity
The hottest conditions are expected during the afternoon hours when the sun is strongest. Residents across New Jersey should prepare for:
Temperatures reaching the 90s in many locations
Heat index values approaching or exceeding 100 degrees in some areas
Increased risk of heat exhaustion and heat-related illness
Difficult conditions for outdoor workers, children, seniors, and pets
Health officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat, and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors. It's not limited to Thursday either. A Heat Advisory has been issued for parts of the Garden State due to the predicted persistence of the hot and muggy weather on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, sporadic severe thunderstorms are predicted due to the extreme weather in the late afternoon and evening.
According to the NWS, there will be a higher chance of severe storms than on Wednesday, with destructive winds posing the most concern.
"Damage-causing wind gusts, short, intense downpours, and quarter-sized hail are all possible during storms. The NWS states that the main time will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Check your
