Deadly Crash: Jeep Slams Into Box Truck at the Jersey Shore

An Egg Harbor Township man died Wednesday afternoon after a crash involving an SUV and a box truck, according to police.

The collision occurred just before 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of Somers Point-Mays Landing Road, where officers were dispatched following reports of a serious crash.

Investigators said a 2019 Freightliner box truck, operated by a 46-year-old man from Paulsboro, was stopped in traffic while preparing to unload construction materials and back into a lengthy residential driveway.

Police said a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by 64-year-old Isaac Wogansky struck the stationary box truck head-on.

Witnesses reported that vehicles in both directions had slowed and were stopped as drivers waited for the box truck to back down the residential driveway.

Police said Wogansky, who was traveling westbound, was unable to stop before reaching the stopped truck. The Jeep veered off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder, then returned to the road and collided head-on with the front of the box truck.

Wogansky suffered critical injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Ed Stearns and Officers Bob Moran, Tom Rizzotte, and Kevin Brady of the Egg Harbor Township Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Egg Harbor Township Police Department at 609-926-4021.
