Ocean County Man Dies in Car Crash

Following a collision Friday night in Pine Lake Park, a man from Ocean County died and a second person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to police reports on Saturday.

According to Manchester police, George Hruszczak, 70, of Jackson passed away from severe internal injuries at the site of the collision at Northampton and Commonwealth Boulevards. Suzana Collazo, 41, of Jackson, was his passenger; she was extricated, taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, and listed in critical condition with internal and brain injuries, according to the police.

Lois Genna, 28, of Manchester was also hurt; according to the police, she was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.

According to authorities, the collision occurred just before 8 pm. Police said that after coming to a stop at the stop sign on Northampton Boulevard, Hruszczak, driving a silver 2005 Honda Civic, began to accelerate across the intersection to the west, directly into the path of Genna's gray 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was traveling north on Commonwealth Boulevard.

Despite the fact that Hruszczak and Collazo were both buckled up, the Honda's airbags did not inflate at the moment of the collision, which left both cars with significant damage, according to the police. Police reported that Genna was not buckled up.

For the duration of the rescue operation and inquiry, the highways were closed.
