According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, after a two-month investigation into drug distribution in Ocean County, two males were taken into custody and over 1,5000 wax folds of heroin/fentanyl were seized.

Following over a month of surveillance, Trenton residents Jireh Mathis, 27, and Tashawn McDonald, 23, were taken into custody at an apartment complex in Toms River, according to Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

According to the prosecutor's office, the two men were under surveillance by the authorities starting in early December. On January 22, they were spotted driving a car owned by Mathis up to the Green Meadow Apartment Complex in Toms River.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Strike Force confronted them as they got out of the car; Mathis attempted to flee but was apprehended, according to Billhimer. McDonald was apprehended without any problems, according to the prosecutor's office.

Following his arrest, a search revealed that Mathis had 10 grams of cocaine and roughly 500 wax folds of heroin/fentanyl, according to the prosecutor's office.

In total, authorities seized about 1,500 wax folds of heroin/fentanyl and 25 grams of cocaine throughout the course of the investigation, he said.

The prosecutor's office said that Mathis was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than half an ounce but less than five ounces of heroin, conspiracy to distribute more than half an ounce but less than five ounces of cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, and resisting arrest. There were also charges of more than half an ounce but less than five ounces of heroin and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Mathis is awaiting trial and is being detained in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.

According to the prosecutor's office, McDonald was charged with conspiring to distribute more than half an ounce but less than five ounces of heroin and more than half an ounce but less than five ounces of cocaine.

According to the prosecutor's office, McDonald was freed on a summons with a scheduled initial appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.
