Tuesday is Election Day in New Jersey, and it's a big one.
In the most important race, voters will decide who will serve as the state's governor for the next four years, choosing between Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy and Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
In addition, the entire state legislature is up for election.
Governor Phil Murphy is seeking re-election for a second term, making him the first Democratic governor of New Jersey to do so in 44 years. Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli is attempting to deny him that feat, with the goal of returning the governorship to the GOP four years after Chris Christie's final term.
There are three third-party candidates: Madelyn Hoffman of the Green Party, Gregg Mele of the Libertarian Party, and Joanne Kulinsky of the Socialist Workers Party.
All 120 seats in the state Legislature, which writes New Jersey's laws and approves its budget, are up for grabs. Democrats currently dominate both houses of the state legislature, the Senate and the Assembly.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout New Jersey on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
CAN YOU VOTE IN PERSON?
Yes. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, last year's elections were primarily mail-in. This year, though, you can vote in person on standard voting machines.
Despite the fact that masks are still necessary inside New Jersey schools due to the virus, voters who have polling booths at a school will not be required to wear them.
