Family Rescued from House Fire in Toms River

1002 Majorca Court Fire

1002 Majorca Court, Toms River, NJ

Toms River Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls on November 2, 2022, at around 5:10 a.m., reporting a suspected structure fire.

Just before the fire crews arrived early on Friday morning, a neighbor assisted in saving a family from their burning home.

The family was awakened by the neighbor who pounded on doors. According to Assistant Fire Chief Travis Veth of the East Dover Vol. Fire Co., the neighbor also set up a ladder at a window on the second floor to assist one of the residents in descending to safety.

The two-story wood frame house at 1002 Majorca Court caught fire, becoming a three-alarm fire shortly after the East Dover, Silverton, and Toms River Fire Co. 3 arrived. They immediately got to work putting out the fire.

At 5:10 in the morning, the fire department received the call. There were six family members there when the fire started. Although two residents were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation, all of them were safely removed. According to Veth, the injuries weren't life-threatening.

The two family cats were found and safely saved after crews searched the home for them. Police in Toms River and the Pleasant Plains Fire Co. each located one.

Crews operated on scene for approximately three hours to bring the fire under control. Scene was turned over to the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention and Toms River Police Department for the Origin and Cause Investigation.
