One Person Dead in Car Crash
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office the Lakewood Township Police Department was called to a significant car accident on July 22, 2022, around 8:20 p.m. in the vicinity of South Lake Drive and East Lake Park Drive.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Lakewood Township Police Department revealed that a 2017 Toyota Rav4 driven by Maria Flores-Moreno, 35, of Jackson, and occupied by front-seat passenger Juana Lopez-Hernandez, 44, a citizen of Mexico, was struck head-on on South Lake Drive by a 2018 Chevrolet Impala driven by Mordechai Berkowitz, 20, of Lakewood.
Mr. Berkowitz was taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital, where medical staff attended to his wounds before releasing him. The health of Ms. Flores-Moreno is stable after she was taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune. The Southern Campus of Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood is where Ms. Lopez-Hernandez was pronounced dead after being taken there.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Lakewood Township Police Department, Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
