A 59-year-old man drowned Wednesday afternoon at Dallenbach Lake, leading to an extensive search and rescue effort involving local, county and state emergency responders, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.

Authorities said officers were dispatched to Dallenbach Lake, located at 380 Dunhams Corner Road, at approximately 3:34 p.m. after receiving reports that a swimmer had gone underwater and did not reappear.

The emergency response included the East Brunswick Office of Emergency Management, all three East Brunswick fire districts, the Perth Amboy Police and Fire Dive Team, New Jersey State Police aviation and marine units, and EMS crews from RWJBarnabas Health.

Dive teams from the Perth Amboy Fire Department later located the man in the lake and brought him to shore. Paramedics with RWJBarnabas Health immediately began lifesaving measures before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Authorities have not released the man's identity as they work to notify his family. Police said no additional identifying information will be made public at this time.
