TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two people were killed and another suffered serious injuries Saturday night after a crash involving two vehicles and a tractor-trailer on the Garden State Parkway, according to New Jersey State Police.

The victims were identified as Caryn J. Coon, 22, of Forked River, and Lauren J. Maturo, 32, of Syosset, New York. Both died in the collision, which was reported around 9:42 p.m., said Trooper Christopher Postorino.

Amanda K. McHenry, 32, of New York City, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The collision occurred on the northbound Parkway near milepost 87 in Toms River.

According to police, a Genesis passenger vehicle had become disabled in the center lane, with a Freightliner tractor-trailer stopped behind it.

Coon was driving a Honda when her vehicle struck the rear of the stopped tractor-trailer. Following the impact, the Honda left the roadway on the right side and continued down a grassy embankment.

McHenry, who was operating a Ford SUV, subsequently collided with the tractor-trailer. Maturo was riding in the SUV as a passenger, according to Trooper Christopher Postorino.

The tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries in the collision, while no additional injuries were reported at the scene, authorities said.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
