Fatal Hit-and-Run: Driver Indicted for Killing Toms River Man

Dramatic Rescue: Woman's Car Submerged in Ocean County Waters

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, Timothy J. Schellinger, Jr., 44, from Tuckahoe, NJ was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury for second-degree Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash.

On July 10, 2023, at approximately 9:12 P.M., Jermaine Goines, 51, from Toms River, NJ was struck and killed by a flatbed truck while walking eastbound on Route 40 in Mays Landing, NJ.

The truck fled the scene; however, a 9-1-1 caller was able to provide a description of the truck and its direction of travel. Officers from the Hamilton Township Police Department were able to locate the truck approximately three miles away. Schellinger, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody.

This fatal crash investigation was conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department.
