Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run

At around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the vicinity of Massachusetts Avenue and Route 70, a deadly pedestrian hit and run took place, according to Ocean County Prosecutors Office and Toms River Police Department.

When Toms River Police arrived, they discovered a victim, a 28-year-old woman, lying in the road. A witness at the scene reported that the motorist got out, glanced at the pedestrian, and then took off driving east on Route 70 toward Lakewood.

The witness identified the car as a 2003–2009 dark-colored Ford Explorer. The front passenger side of the car has sustained considerable damage, including hood damage and a broken passenger side headlight. The driver is characterized as a Caucasian male with blonde or reddish hair who is tall and trim.

The victim received immediate aid from first responders and EMS/Medics, and a pulse was initially recovered. She was taken to Southern Monmouth Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle and/or its operator is asked to please contact Detective Anthony Carrington of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit at 732-929-2027, ext. 3257, or Toms River Police Officer Corporal Robert Westfall at rwestfall@trpolice.org, or the Toms River Township Police Detective Bureau at 732-349-0150,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.
