Fatal Parkway Accident: Pregnant Ocean County Woman and Husband Killed in Snowplow Crash

Police and reports state that a couple from Lakewood who were expecting their first child died in a collision with a snowplow on the Garden State Parkway on Monday night.

According to New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair, the tragedy claimed the lives of Eliyahu Neydavoud, 29, and Raizel Rothenberg, 30. The collision occurred around 8 p.m.

The collision occurred just as the winter storm that dumped roughly three inches of snow on Monmouth County started to approach the region.

According to The Yeshiva World, Raizel Rothenberg was nine months pregnant with the couple's first child and they were headed to a wedding when the accident occurred.

According to The Lakewood Scoop, Neydavoud was a rabbi at Lakewood's Ohel Torah.

When an International snowplow truck attempted to turn into an emergency vehicle U-turn area close to milepost 104.2 in Tinton Falls, Neydavoud, in a Toyota SUV, was traveling north at the time, according to McNair.

The pair suffered fatal injuries when the Toyota lost control and collided with the snowplow's side as it entered the U-turn area, he said.

According to McNair, the crash is still being investigated.
