Toms River Renews $3K Incentive For New School Bus Drivers
The Toms River Regional School District has extended its offer of $3,000 to new bus drivers who work for the district for a year.
The retention incentive is part of Toms River's effort to encourage drivers to work for the school system, which is short about 50 drivers between full-time and substitute employment.
The driver scarcity has been festering for some time, as fewer people pursued the job due to federal requirements for obtaining a commercial driver's license, as well as specific training to be qualified to operate a passenger vehicle and a school bus.
Drivers hired by Nov. 30 who stay for at least a year and work 25 hours per week or more are eligible for a $3,000 bonus. Anyone with a CDL and endorsements for passengers, school buses, and air brakes will receive the incentive in two installments, at six months and twelve months after starting work.
Full-time and part-time opportunities are available in Toms River. The full-time employment come with benefits, and the district will pay for CDL and endorsement exam training.READ MORE
