A fire broke out during the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 12 in the rear of a Toms River home where the 1979 film "The Amityville Horror" was filmed.

According to the Toms River Police Department, police and firefighters were called to the Brooks Road residence around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning for a report of an explosion and fire. Upon arrival, they were advised by a neighbor that nobody was inside the home, according to Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina.

This home is known in Toms River as the home where the 1979 movie “The Amityville Horror” was filmed.

Firefighters with the Toms River Fire Company were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which had caused a propane tank to explode, on the rear deck of the home.

Messina said the fire did not appear to be suspicious but that the cause was still undetermined.

Crews from that company as well as Toms River Fire Company 1 and the East Dover Fire Company were able to quickly extinguish the blaze without it spreading to the house, fire officials said.
