Free Weekend Nature Programs Return to Cattus Island & Jakes Branch Parks

Join a park naturalist as they dispel the myths and fears of native reptiles. You will see some of our live snakes and turtles up close and personal. Learn what makes these native species so special and why they are such an important part of the ecosystem.

Ocean County families have plenty to explore this season as Cattus Island County Park and Jakes Branch County Park roll out a full lineup of free weekend programs for all ages. From live animal encounters to guided nature walks and hands‑on crafts, these events offer an easy way to learn, unwind, and enjoy the outdoors.

Scales and Tales

🐢 Celebrate World Turtle Day®

World Turtle Day®, founded by American Tortoise Rescue in 2000, returns with a full day of turtle‑themed activities at the Cooper Environmental Center. Visitors can enjoy crafts, story time, live turtle talks, and learn how to help protect these important species.
