The Showboat in Atlantic City, has broken ground on its most recent effort in family-friendly entertainment, the world's largest oceanfront, indoor water park.

Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein is building the $100 million Island waterpark, which will be added to his roster of non-casino attractions, which already includes the 100,000 square foot Lucky Snake arcade and sports bar.

According to publicist Lisa Johnson, the waterpark will open in summer 2023 on the New Jersey Avenue beach block, right adjacent to Showboat.

In a statement, Blatstein stated, "We are tremendously happy to undertake this next phase in our development." "Atlantic City has a long and illustrious history as a major tourist attraction. The waterpark is another aspect of Showboat's plan to bring non-gaming, family-friendly entertainment back to Atlantic City."

With a retractable glass-pane top, the waterpark will be a year-round source of family fun once completed. Water slides, pools, and a lazy river will be among the attractions at the 103,000-square-foot facility, which will also include food, beverage, and retail shops, lounge areas, and party rooms.

Atlantic City Mayor Mart Small, Assemblyman Don Guardian and Assemblywoman Claire Swift were among those who joined casino officials, labor heads and building trade leaders to take part in the groundbreaking.
