Will There Be Snow?
The National Weather Service is following two potential storm systems that are expected to hit the northern United States in the coming days, but forecasters say it's too early to say whether New Jersey will experience considerable snowfall.
According to Steven DiMartino, a private meteorologist with NY NJ PA Weather, a strong cold front is forecast to travel over the region late Sunday night through Monday, bringing rain to New Jersey.Because the temperatures are too warm to support precipitation, no snow is forecast with this first system, according to the weather service. On Sunday and Monday, temperatures will vary from the high 40s to the high 50s across the state.
However, by Tuesday night, forecasters were keeping a careful eye on another storm system that may have a major impact on the country's northwest. There's still a chance that certain parts of New Jersey will receive a wintry mix of sleet, rain, and snow, but forecasts indicate that this will only happen in higher elevations. Prior to any of these events, the state is still experiencing one of its warmest periods during the late fall season, with temperatures ranging about 10 degrees above normal for early December, according to forecasters. Change arrives on Sunday night, when a warm front moves in that will trigger showers that will linger into Monday morning. On Monday night, another cold front is expected to approach, bringing with it some blustery conditions. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature will drop into the 30s overnight.
Another storm is expected to arrive Tuesday night, with the potential for snow on Wednesday, according to forecasters.
