Isolated Tornado Possible in New Jersey as Severe Storm Threat Builds
NEW JERSEY — New Jersey residents are being urged to stay weather-aware as forecasters monitor the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and an isolated tornado.
Weather experts say the biggest concern across much of the Garden State remains damaging straight-line winds, but atmospheric conditions may also support brief, isolated tornado development in some locations.
Storms are expected to develop as heat and humidity build ahead of an approaching cold front. Forecasters note that while not every community will experience severe weather, any storm that strengthens could quickly become dangerous.
Southern portions of New Jersey may have a slightly greater chance of seeing rotating storms, although the tornado risk remains low and isolated.
Potential storm impacts include:
Damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines
Torrential rainfall leading to localized flooding
Frequent lightning
Small to large hail
A brief isolated tornado cannot be ruled out Officials recommend residents monitor forecasts throughout the day, enable weather alerts on mobile devices, and move indoors immediately if warnings are issued.
Remember:
Tornado Watch = Conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
Tornado Warning = A tornado is occurring or imminent — seek shelter immediately.
Conditions can change rapidly, so New Jersey residents should remain alert through the evening hours. Check the local
forecast.
