Jersey Shore Rescue: Girl and Grandmother Saved from Rip Current

Jersey Shore Rescue: Girl and Grandmother Saved from Rip Current

According to Margate City Police, an East Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania youngster and her grandmother were saved from a rip current at an exposed beach over the weekend.

On September 16, at around 4:36 p.m., the Wilson Avenue beach was the scene of numerous calls reporting the distress of two swimmers, a 12-year-old girl and her 58-year-old grandmother.

Already on the beach for a separate incident, Officer Brendan Campbell "immediately responded and ran into the surf," according to the police.

Soon after, Sgt. Chris Taroncher arrived on an ATV and entered the water to assist, according to the police. Police were able to locate both swimmers because they were holding onto a nearby jetty.

While battling through the rough surf and rip current themselves, Campbell and Taroncher each grabbed a victim, according to the authorities.

The Margate City Fire Department provided immediate care and both swimmers were released.
