New Jersey is offering a unique chance for residents who love the outdoors to launch a hands-on career in environmental stewardship. The Parks & Wildlife Maintenance Apprentice Program is now accepting applications for full‑time positions across the state, providing a paid pathway into maintaining New Jersey’s State Parks, Forests, and Historic Sites.

This two‑year training program equips apprentices with the skills needed to perform a wide range of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Participants gain real-world experience in construction, repairs, facility upkeep, and grounds maintenance — all while working outdoors and contributing to the preservation of New Jersey’s natural and historic treasures.

Salary Range

$42,447.94 – $61,198.74

Available Locations

  • Allaire State Park (Monmouth County)
  • Brendan T. Byrne State Forest (Burlington County)
  • Stokes State Forest (Sussex County)

Job Responsibilities

Apprentices support daily park operations, including:

  • Custodial services to ensure visitor health and safety
  • Minor and major repairs
  • Snow removal
  • Basic painting and carpentry
  • Roadway and trail maintenance
  • Upkeep of recreational facilities and park infrastructure
