According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office a Pennsylvania man has been charged in the shooting death of his roommate at a Seaside Heights motel in August of 2021.

Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Jose Serrano-Robles, 43, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, has been indicted on charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and being a specific person not to possess weapons.

Around 2 a.m. on Aug. 16, Seaside Heights police got a 911 call reporting shots fired at the La Fontana Motel on Grant Avenue. Officers discovered a 51-year-old guy who had been shot in the head. Billhimer said he was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune but eventually recovered and was released.

Serrano-Robles and the victim had been sharing a room at the La Fontana Motel, and investigators discovered two firearms during a check of the room, according to Billhimer. Serrano-Robles allegedly shot the victim and then escaped, according to authorities.

Serrano-Robles was apprehended by Seaside Heights cops at the Toms River bus terminal, according to Billhimer. Since his arrest, he has been incarcerated at the Ocean County Jail.

The case was submitted before the grand jury by Assistant Prosecutor Genna Moscato.

The investigation and arrest were carried out by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime and High Tech Crime sections, Seaside Heights police, Toms River police, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation and K-9 units, and the sheriff's office Warrants Division.
