Charles Baldwin and Randolph Fuson to the Rescue
According to Toms River Police Department, at around 3:16 PM on February 24, 2023, police, fire, and EMS units were called to the Tunney Bridge for a boater in need.
While performing repair on a bridge, two contractors named Charles Baldwin and Randolph Fuson of IEW spotted an overturned kayak and searched the area for nearby people.
They heard someone yelling for help and provided a life vest and life ring to the individual, holding the rope to keep him in sight until additional help arrived.
Following the officers' arrival, the subject was extricated from the water by the Seaside Heights Fire and Police Departments. For treatment, he was brought to Community Medical Center. East Dover Fire, Ocean Beach Fire, Silverton Fire, and the New Jersey State Police Marine Division all provided assistance at the scene.
