A lifeguard at Jones Beach in Long Island claims he was bitten by a shark.
On Monday, July 26th, a lifeguard at Jones Beach in Long Island was in the water doing his job when he says he saw a fin in the water. At approximately 11 am he was attacked by a shark. Thankfully the bite was not life-threatening and he was treated while on the beach and then sent to a local hospital. According to the incident report the lifeguard was bitten on the calf causing a one-inch wound.
After the attack, the beaches remained open however swimming was immediately suspended. The New York State Police responded with a drone to overfly and inspect the water. After several hours, they were not able to spot the shark.
The week before, on Wednesday, a shark was spotted by residents 25 yards off Nickerson Beach. Swimming stopped for an hour.
Many swimmers were interviewed by many news channels and most have said they did not see any sharks and were not scared to get back into the ocean to cool off.
