A group of females got themselves into a risky scenario, turning a regular day at the beach in Toms River into a terrifying situation.

After getting caught in a rip current, 12 teen swimmers had to be saved at the Chadwick Beach area of Toms River.

According to Chadwick Beach & Yacht Club, the rescue occurred on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at around 4:15 p.m. in Toms River's Chadwick Beach neighborhood. Several rescue lines, rescue boards, and rescue torps were used in the retrieval.

Bobby Irwin, who was seated on the main stand, reportedly spotted three girls struggling in the water at about 4:15 p.m. and rushed to their rescue.

There suddenly appeared to be more girls in jeopardy as Irwin fled, joined by more guards. Everybody was working to get everyone in after a small rescue grew exponentially larger, according to reports.

The rescue, according to Lieutenant Sean Frew of the Chadwick Beach Lifeguards, was "difficult" and required assistance from other guards in the area. "We had most of our guards in the water to the point where the neighboring beach even sent over their guards to help us cover the stands," Frew added.

The guards — Bobby Irwin, Lt. Sean Frew, Desai Gliddon, Luke Hewlitt, Kerry Perna, Dan Brodeur, Nick Herkins, Matt Schwartz, Sean O'Callahan and Grace Fehrnstrom — got all 12 girls back to shore with no serious injuries.
