Drivers in Toms River are continuing to experience minor delays following a serious crash Tuesday evening at the busy intersection of Hooper Avenue and Route 37.
According to the
Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, the crash caused significant disruption after a traffic signal at the intersection was knocked down. Emergency crews remained at the scene Tuesday night conducting an investigation and working to clear debris from the roadway.
While authorities have not yet released details regarding how the crash occurred or whether there were any injuries, at least one heavily damaged vehicle was seen being towed from the scene.
Police officers directed traffic manually for several hours as crews worked to stabilize the damaged signal equipment. Traffic on Route 37 continued moving in both eastbound and westbound directions, although access from Hooper Avenue remained limited. Southbound drivers on Hooper Avenue were only permitted to turn west onto Route 37 from the right lane, while northbound drivers could only turn east onto Route 37 from the right lane.
Motorists traveling through the area are urged to use caution and expect delays as repairs and any remaining cleanup operations continue.
The intersection of Hooper Avenue and Route 37 is one of the busiest in Ocean County, often seeing heavy commuter and retail traffic throughout the day. Authorities are reminding drivers to slow down, remain alert when driving.
