Man Admits Killing Woman in Seaside Heights

Gerardo Ruiz

Gerardo Ruiz, 51, of Seaside Heights

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer a man confessed on Wednesday to killing a woman at a motel in Seaside Heights last year.

According to a statement from the agency, on May 1, 2021, at 7:30 a.m., the Seaside Heights Police got a call reporting that Gerardo Ruiz, 51, of Seaside Heights, had murdered a woman at the Offshore Motel in the borough while Ruiz was staying a block away at the Surfside Motel.

Alecia Perreault, 29, of Seaside Heights, was found dead at the Offshore Motel when police arrived there. She had injuries to her neck. The office reported that she was declared dead at the scene. A short while later, Ruiz's overdose was discovered in his Surfside Motel room.

After being transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, Ruiz has been held in a secure medical facility, according to the authorities.

Ruiz was found to have killed Perreault, according to investigators who determined that her death was deemed a homicide. Her cause of death, however, was not disclosed.

He was due to get a sentence on December 9 and might spend 35 years in state prison, according to Billhimer.
