A Manchester man who was accused of intentionally leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death while picking up free furniture in the Whiting district of the township last April has guilty to knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Kevin Noonan, 63, pled guilty to two counts in the incident on Monday in the Ocean County Courthouse.

At Noonan's sentencing on April 1 before Superior Court Judge Lisa A. Puglisi, the prosecutor's office is anticipated to seek a six-year sentence.

On April 13, about 3:45 p.m., Manchester police responded to Yorktowne Parkway in Whiting after receiving a complaint of a person being struck by a car.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer, officers discovered Jack Gotfried, 69, laying on the road with extensive injuries to his lower body.

Gotfried was airlifted to Neptune's Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Noonan went to Gotfried's house to pick up free furniture, according to the prosecutor's office and Manchester police. Noonan backed up in reverse at a high pace while Gotfried was loading the furniture onto Noonan's car, trapping Gotfried between the vehicle and a truck parked in front of the house, according to Billhimer.

According to Billhimer, Noonan departed the site of the accident, leaving Gotfried in the road.

Noonan was seen going down Western Avenue in Lacey shortly after the collision and was apprehended by a prosecutor's detective.

According to jail records, he has been imprisoned at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River since then.
