Mayor Rodrick and Chief Maire Swear In Eight New Officers to TRPD

TOMS RIVER — The Toms River Police Department welcomed eight new officers to the force during a swearing‑in ceremony at last night’s Township Council meeting. Mayor Daniel T. Rodrick and Police Chief Guy Maire administered the oaths, officially bringing the new hires into one of Ocean County’s largest and busiest departments.

The newly sworn‑in officers are:

Joseph Ciaurro
Francisco Flores
Mohamed Ibrahim
Michael Barbagallo
Nicholas Sachs
Steven Schengen
John Coakley

Each officer comes to Toms River with a strong background in law enforcement, including prior service in agencies across New Jersey such as Paterson, Lakehurst, Absecon, Seaside Heights, and Point Pleasant Beach. Several also bring military experience and civilian policing credentials, allowing them to step into patrol duties without the extended academy training typically required for new recruits.

During the ceremony, Chief Maire introduced each officer individually, highlighting their education, professional experience, and ties to the community. The Toms River PBA Local 137 welcomed the new members as they joined the department’s growing ranks.

This latest hiring continues the township’s ongoing investment in public safety. Under Mayor Rodrick’s leadership, the department has expanded significantly over the past year, including additional hires, promotions, and increased EMS staffing aimed at improving response times and strengthening community protection.

“We are proud to welcome these new officers to our force,” township officials said. “We thank them for their service to our community and wish them safety and success in their careers.”
