Nationwide AT&T Outage Resolved After Lengthy Disruption
Following an outage that prevented its customers nationwide from using their cellphones for hours, AT&T announced on Thursday that its wireless network has returned.
In a statement published on its website on Thursday afternoon, the Dallas-based firm stated, "We have restored wireless service to all our affected customers." "We truly regret our offense to them."
At approximately 3:30 a.m. Eastern Time, the outage started, and by 9:30 a.m., AT&T reported more than 73,000 outages. The largest carrier in the nation, with over 240 million subscribers, is this one.
Although not as bad, Verizon and T-Mobile users also experienced significant outages on Thursday morning, according to DownDetector.
As of Thursday morning, the cities of Houston, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, New York City, and Austin had the highest number of reported outages.
Using social media, a number of local police departments advised residents who needed to contact 911 to try using a landline.
There was no stated reason for the outage. Fox News was informed by a defense official that there was "no indication it was a cyber attack."
