Following a collision on Pinewald Keswick Road that brought down cables and a utility pole, a woman from Manchester was taken to the hospital on Wednesday night, according to Manchester police.

About 6 p.m., Kathleen Smith, 75,was traveling west on Pinewald Keswick Road in a blue 2013 Hyundai Elantra when it veered off the road close to Pine Ridge Boulevard and collided with a utility pole, according to Manchester Capt. Vincent Manco.

Live wires were found on the Hyundai when it came to a stop in the woods on the north side of the road, according to Manco, after smashing into the pole multiple times.

According to him, Jersey Central Power & Light came to the scene to cut the electricity to the lines, allowing Smith to be taken out of her car safely.

According to Manco, Smith's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening when he was brought to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. According to the authorities, the crash is still under investigation and appears to have been caused by an unidentified medical occurrence.

A portion of the road was closed while the investigation and cleanup were underway.

Emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, JCP&L, Accurate Towing, and the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department were among those helping at the scene.

Brendan Brush, a patrolman in the department's Traffic Safety Section, is conducting the investigation.
