The Toms River Township Planning Board recently approved the development of a Chipotle restaurant on a plot of land near Route 37 and Washington Street.
The 65-seat restaurant will be spread out across 2,325 square feet and will include a Chipotlane, Chipotle's digital order drive-thru pick-up lane.
According to a memo from township Planner David Roberts, the property, a corner lot on the south side of Route 37 and the north side of Washington Street, was originally a gas station before it was cleared in 2006.
The Toms River Mall shopping mall and a Sherwin Williams paint business are both across the highway.
The land was proposed for a Dunkin' Donuts-Baskin Robbins To Go's store in 2003, but the concept was never authorized by township officials.
Chipotle's application was granted by the Planning Board, which included revisions to its signage and a commitment to no left turns into Washington Street.
The restaurant will be 2,325 square feet, with 65 seats and a drive-thru option for mobile pick-up.
Accessory parking, stormwater management facilities, lighting, landscaping, and utilities are all included in the site plan.
