Toms River Mom Organizes a Gofundme to Raise Money for A Wheelchair-Accessible Van

Marisa Maltese is organizing this fundraiser.

According to Marisa's gofundme Page:

Hi most of you know me and my family, if you don’t know me my name is Marisa and I want to tell you a little bit about why I am in search of help at this time. In 2016 I gave birth to identical twin boys Noah and Gabriel. Almost losing my life giving birth to them they were both born with a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

Today they are six years old loving, caring, happy, and blessed. As most families struggling right now our family is struggling too but in a different way.

Every day we carry our children to my vehicle where I drive them to school, take out the wheelchairs that they have in the back of my van put them together and wheel them into school. When the bus drops them off at the end of the day my husband carries them back into the house disassembles the wheelchairs and puts them back into my car for the routine to happen again the following day.

The boys are a little over 40 pounds apiece so it’s getting to be a little physically challenging for me and my husband to be able to continue to keep doing things in this way. I’ve reached out to multiple mobility vehicle carriers and they pretty much all start out at $78,000 which I think is horrendous considering you’re dealing with people that have disabilities. Where can anybody come up with the money to be able to drive a modified vehicle for that amount of money?

Especially in these rough times. Any help that you can give would be extremely appreciated if you cannot help financially maybe you can share my page to someone that you know that may feel that they could help. The vehicle that we are trying to get is a Ram Tempest pro master, it’s not just a luxury purchase it’s of necessity. Again , I have two children that are both disabled and this vehicle for their equipment and the wheelchairs is the best fit for our family.

For anyone that has a disabled child you know that a lot of bathrooms are not accommodating for you to be able to change your child, especially when they pass a weight requirement. This vehicle also has a lay down backseat so that I can privately change them inside if we are out on a day trip, for a doctors appointment, church, or just going for a ride around with the family. I am an extremely prideful person for anyone that knows me. I work very hard to take care of my family so this does make me feel uncomfortable to ask for help but at this point I need to do what I have to do to be able to help my boys try to live as much of a normal life as I possibly can, and for myself and my husband to be able to transport our children. Thank you for reading about my story and God bless you!
