This week, Toms River council members approved allocating funding to create a dog park in the town.
To build a dog park at the current Silverton Park, the Cookstown-based Vulcan Construction Group will receive a $240,235 contract, which the township council overwhelmingly approved on Wednesday night.
In the Silverton section of the township, Silverton Park is situated off Maine Street. The dog park will likely be built at the back of the property and come with fencing and a variety of amenities for animals. Vulcan's bid comprises cleaning and prepping the current site, setting up six vinyl fences that range in height from four to ten feet, installing a weed barrier, enhancing the parking lot by adding a number of handicapped places, and installing signs.
The park will have a walking route, a pet waste station with a concrete foundation, natural berms, themed decorative garbage and recycling bins, and beautiful 6-foot-long chairs that are anchored into the ground. In addition, the park will include fresh landscaping.
Although no official construction start date has been established as the contract was only given, Mayor Maurice "Mo" Hill said he anticipates work to start soon and construction will take a short amount of time.
