The Heat Returns to New Jersey

New Jersey is heading into another stretch of uncomfortable heat as humidity surges across the state to close out the work week. While temperatures won’t reach the extreme levels seen in early July, the combination of heat and very high dew points will make conditions feel oppressive from Thursday through Saturday.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for Thursday and Friday, and may need to be extended into Saturday as dew points climb into the mid to upper 70s. This tropical-level humidity will push heat index values into the 95°–105° range, making it feel significantly hotter than the actual air temperature.

Alongside the heat, several disturbances will move through the region Thursday and Friday, sparking afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Some storms may become severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts. Heavy downpours may also lead to localized flash flooding, especially north and west of the I‑95 corridor, where the strongest storms are most likely.

Residents should take precautions to stay safe during this stretch of heat and unsettled weather. Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings as they are issued.
