MONTGOMERY, NJ — According to the Somerset County Prosecutors Office, authorities have identified the three people who were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a Montgomery home Friday in what investigators are calling a double murder-suicide.

The victims were identified as Lora Grodnick, 62, and her daughter, Sloane Grodnick, 24, Somerset County.

Officials said both women died from gunshot wounds to the head. Their deaths were ruled homicides.

The man was identified as David Grodnick, 61, the husband of Lora Grodnick and father of Sloane Grodnick, McDonald said.

Authorities said Grodnick died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was ruled a suicide.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, shortly before 3 p.m., Montgomery Township Police received a request to conduct a welfare check at a home on Wild Azalea Lane.

Officers responded to the residence but were unable to make contact with anyone inside. They then began working to determine the whereabouts of the home's occupants, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, officers were able to enter the residence, where they discovered two women, later identified as Lora and Sloane Grodnick, dead in separate bedrooms.

Both women appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds, according to McDonald.

A man, later identified as David Grodnick, was also found dead inside the home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. McDonald said Grodnick was found with a firearm.

Medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset pronounced both women and the man dead at the scene.

The investigation was conducted by detectives with the Montgomery Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit, along with medical investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office also conducted postmortem examinations.

McDonald said the investigation remains ongoing but has determined that the deaths of Lora and Sloane Grodnick were an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
