New Jersey Task Force 1 Deploys Ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia

rip current risk for new jersey beaches

The New Jersey Department of Emergency Management are beginning to see strong swells from distant Hurricane Franklin. Even though Franklin is expected to remain several hundred miles away from our shores, strong hurricanes can still create deadly rip currents and waves.

A High Risk for rip currents is expected Wednesday and Thursday for all NJ and DE beaches.

We expect to see an elevated rip current risk through the rest of this week and potentially into the upcoming holiday weekend. You can stay safe by following these tips:

🌊 Be aware of rip current risks, even if the weather is nice!

🛟 Always swim near a lifeguard.

✅ Check the beach forecast before you go at weather.gov/beach/phi

As Hurricane Idalia makes its way to Florida, responders from our area are making their way down the coast.
