NJ Police: Drunk Driver Takes Young Daughter To McDonald’s
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — According to police, a 37-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he drove his daughter to a McDonald’s while intoxicated.
The Collings Lakes man faces charges of driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Washington Township Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the McDonald’s at 5851 State Highway 42 around 11 p.m. after employees reported that a man inside the restaurant appeared to be heavily intoxicated while accompanied by a child.
Employees told officers the man was slurring his speech and having difficulty walking steadily.
An officer arrived at the restaurant within about a minute and administered field sobriety tests, police said.
The man told officers he had consumed alcohol that evening and was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Salem County Jail.
During the arrest, another officer remained with the child until she could be safely released into the care of a family member.
Police praised the McDonald’s employees for speaking up, saying their decision to intervene may have helped prevent a potentially tragic situation.
