WHARTON, N.J. — The New Jersey State Police is asking for the public’s help as investigators work to piece together the events leading up to a fatal multi‑vehicle crash on Interstate 80 Wednesday morning.

Troopers from the Troop “B” Netcong Station responded at 8:08 a.m. on April 9 to a crash on I‑80 westbound near milepost 34.5 in Wharton Borough, Morris County.

According to the preliminary investigation, the crash began when the front of an Audi SUV struck the rear of a Subaru SUV, causing the Subaru to veer right and collide with the guardrail. The Audi then continued westbound and struck a Pontiac passenger vehicle, which was pushed forward into a Chevrolet SUV.

The driver of the Subaru sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. State Police released a photo showing the section of I‑80 where the collision occurred.

Investigators are now seeking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicles involved before or after the impact.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Troop “B” Netcong Station Criminal Investigation Office at 973‑347‑1001.
