NJ Turnpike Tragedy: Child Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident

A juvenile passenger died in a three-vehicle crash early Tuesday on the New Jersey Turnpike in East Windsor Township, according to state police.

Authorities said troopers responded around 1:29 a.m. to the southbound outer roadway near milepost 68.4 in Mercer County.

A preliminary investigation found that a Subaru, carrying a juvenile in the rear seat, was traveling south when it was hit from behind by a Freightliner tractor-trailer, police said.
After hitting the back of a Volvo box truck, the Freightliner veered off the road to the left and collided with the guardrail.

The child in the Subaru died as a result of his injuries. State police did not disclose the child's age or gender. Both the drivers of the Subaru and the Freightliner were taken to a nearby hospital after suffering moderate injuries. There were no reports of any other injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was available.
