TOMS RIVER — Joseph D. “Joe” Finn, Jr., 51, known affectionately by many as JR and Howdy, passed away on May 14, 2026. Born and raised in Hoboken, Joe later made his home in Ocean County, where he built a life centered around family, friendship, and the simple joys he loved most.
Joe was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, remembered for his quick wit, stubborn streak, and the unmistakable humor he brought into every room. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Throughout his career, Joe worked in several hospitals as a Patient Transporter, eventually becoming a Supervisor. It was during this time that he met his close friend Sue — a friendship that profoundly shaped both of their lives.
Outside of work, Joe found his greatest happiness on the water. Fishing was his first love, and he spent countless hours casting lines with his lifelong best friend, Mark. Whether at the casino, the racetrack, or searching for a crumb cake that could rival his Nana’s (a quest he never quite completed), Joe embraced life with enthusiasm and heart.
A loyal fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, Joe could often be found on the couch cheering on his teams, fully invested in every play.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Georgette Finn. He is survived by his wife Melissa; his son Austin and daughter Samantha; stepdaughters Savannah Hill and Amanda Stubbs; his brother Addison Finn and sister Scarlett Finn; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother‑in‑law Natalie Ross, along with his two beloved dogs, Katy and Channing.
