Ocean County Motorcyclist Suffers Internal Injuries After Collision with Deer

Motorcycle Collision with Injuries.

According to Manchester Police Department, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at around 7:41 p.m., Manchester Township Police officers responded to the scene of a motorcycle accident involving injuries near Route 539 and Harry Wright Boulevard in the Whiting neighborhood of the Township. Upon arrival, police saw a male rider lying injured several hundred feet away from a highly damaged black 2021 Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle sitting against a utility pole.

According to the investigation, the motorcycle driver was on Route 539 heading north when three deer crossed the road from the west and struck the motorcyclist. A traffic sign was sheered off as the motorcycle slid for several hundred feet before coming to rest against the base of a utility pole. The motorcyclist was ejected from the vehicle.

Jose Vergara Suarez, 18, of Manchester, who was operating the Suzuki, was wearing a DOT helmet and was flown by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, for treatment of internal wounds. Later, Suarez was released from the hospital, and it was discovered that the deer had perished as a result of the collision.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Whiting Volunteer Fire Police, Manchester Emergency Medical Services, and Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson. The crash remains under investigation by Sergeant Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
