According to authorities, a 16-year-old teenager was shot in the leg on Monday night in Lakewood township's Davina Court neighborhood.

According to Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police Department, the injury was not thought to be fatal.

When the bullets were fired, the kid and other passengers in the car were headed to a meeting with at least one individual, he claimed.

About 10:30 p.m., Staffordsmith said, the Toms River Police Department called the Lakewood police to report that the victim had been taken to Community Medical Center by his pals.

That evening, residents along Davina Court reported hearing what sounded like gunfire to Lakewood police who were conducting an investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective Matthew Richardson at 732-363-0200, extension 5342, according to Staffordsmith.
