Ocean County Tragedy: Pedestrian Loses Life in Fatal Crash
According to The Lacey Township Police Department, Lacey EMS, and RWJ Paramedics responded to the scene of a vehicle striking a pedestrian near the intersection of Lake Barnegat Drive and Chelsea Street on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 8:51 PM.
Driving south on Lake Barnegat Drive, the driver of a white 2019 Hyundai Elantra, identified as Chelsea Derose, 30, of Lacey Township, struck Jeanne Mooney, 53, of Lacey Township, who was walking.
Chelsea was unharmed in the collision, but Jeanne was transported by RWJ Medivac to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center after suffering significant injuries. Later on, Jeanne Mooney passed away from her injuries received in the collision.
Lake Barnegat Drive, between Chelsea Street and Elwood Street, was closed for a period of time while the crash was being investigated. The preliminary investigation on scene revealed that Chelsea was traveling southbound on Lake Barnegat Drive when Jeanne entered Lake Barnegat Drive from the area of Chelsea Street.
As a result, Jeanne was struck by the Hyundai Elantra. The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Michael Hyle, of the Lacey Township Police Department Crash Investigation Team.
