Pedestrian Struck While Crossing Hooper Avenue in Toms River

Pedestrian Struck

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021, police units were summoned to Hooper Ave, at the intersection of James Street for a reported pedestrian struck. 

Ebony Shepherd, 34, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, climbed over the Jersey Barrier from east to west while attempting to cross Hooper Avenue and was struck by an oncoming automobile. 

Due to the severity of her injuries, Ms. Sheperd was transferred to Community Medical Center and then airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick.

The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of intoxication and sustained no injuries as a result of the collision. The CSI Unit of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department also assisted at the scene. Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater and Patrolman Will Resetar are still investigating the collision.
